Bellport.com’s company “car”
Larry Sribnick is proud of his home town of Bellport, New York. So much so, that years ago, he registered the domain name Bellport.com with the intention of someday starting a web site about his town. His daugher Erin is a web designer in Los Angeles, and in July 2005, they got together and developed and designed the site. Four months later, Bellport.com launched.
"Bellport, NY is a sleepy little village, about two thirds of the way out on the south shore of Long Island," writes Sribnick. "In spite of its 1 mile by 1 mile size and only 2,500 full time residents, it boasts a Country Club with golf, tennis, restaurants, and catering, a marina with dockage and launching ramp, a private ferry to a section of Fire Island owned by the Village, a summer bandshell and park in the marina, a Yacht Club, a professional summer stock theater, numerous shops and businesses, and a long list of local organizations from the Garden Club to the Film Society."
It's also home turf to Sribnick's new company car: a brand new, dragon red Vespa GTS.
Sribnick wanted to drive something that would get attention around town. After considering DaimlerChrysler's GEM electric car, and a 1930 Model A Ford, Sribrick recalled his love of Vespas in college. Back in 1963, he owned a Vespa GS 200.
"When I saw a photo of a shiny red Vespa GTS on the internet, I was hooked," says Sribnick. "It was exactly what I had been looking for. A vehicle that's FUN, ecologically correct, FUN, draws a lot of attention, FUN, is easy to park, FUN, has plenty of storage for my camera bag, and, did I mention it's FUN???"
Everywhere he goes, Sribnick says, his Vespa turns heads and brings smiles. But the best part was when Sribnick's accountant said that he could declare his Vespa as a tax deduction.
"I was meeting with my accountant and I casually joked with him about my new Vespa being a 'company car' for Bellport.com," explains Sribnick. "To my surprise, he said sure, no problem. I need the transportation and from a marketing and advertising point of view, it certainly does the job of promoting Bellport.com."
Sribnick can't be happier. "I have a great family, summer is coming, I live in Bellport, I have a shiny new red Vespa, Bellport.com is growing like crazy, I get to talk to my daughter five or six times a day cross country, and I get to write off my GTS. Life doesn't get any better!"
